The Washington State Wine Club... Discover Washington Wines
Committed to bringing the best of Washington state's wine to the public, the Washington State Wine Club is one of those great local wine clubs that can really boost your knowledge, and enjoyment, of regional wines.
Washington State has lately seen a rise in both the size and quality of its wine production, which hasn't gone unnoticed in the international market. Though the state's winemaking tradition dates back to 1825, it was only after the 1960's, when a famous California enologist was brought in, that Washington wines developed beyond the production of cheap anonymous wine.
A product of this new flourishing era, The Washington Wine Club offers a great variety of wines from the state's many grape-growing sub-regions, from the Columbia Valley to Red Mountain and from the Yakima Valley to Walla Walla.
Vintage, Reserve, and Premier
There are three membership options at the Washington wine club. The most affordable one is the Vintage club, which offers two bottles of either red, white or mixed wines every month for under $35.
At a higher quality, the Reserve club has a price range between $35 and $70, while the Premier club is a combination of the Vintage and Reserve selections, offering four bottles per month for a cost of $60-100.
Every wine selection is delivered complete with recipes, tasting notes, and a calendar of wine events. Membership is very flexible; it runs from month to month, and you can cancel it whenever you like.
As far as their wine choices go, my personal research brought in reassuring results. I checked out two of their latest selections: a Saviah Cellar 2002 Syrah and the Foolish Oak 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon. Though I didn't find any raving reviews about them, both had above average online ratings.
