Virgin Wine Club Review

Virgin wines...
A Connoisseur's Supermarket

The Virgin Wine Club provides wines from 16 different countries for the UK area, delivering mixed cases to its members each quarter. It has a large selection, amounting to over 300 different wines, over half of which have won either national or international awards.

Whatever type of wine you are looking for; chances are Virgin's wine club has it in stock. I usually put wine clubs through a test: I check whether they have Tannat. A world-recognized variety only produced in France and Uruguay, Tannat can still be called rare in most consumer markets. This wine club offers one Uruguayan Tannat. In other words, their selection is pretty comprehensive.

The Discovery Wine Club

The rules are pretty simple. You get one 12-bottle case each quarter at a maximum 80% of its market value. They will let you know in advance what the case contains. If you don't like it, you can pass.

You can choose whether you want a red, white, or mixed case. Virgin wines claim that their quarterly wine selections are usually in tune with the season.

Pricing and Delivery

Pricing is relatively good by UK-market standards: a case can be about £100. Your welcome case, on the other hand, will receive a 50% discount. Membership also gets you a 15% discount on all available extra supplies.

The club can deliver anywhere within the UK for £6.99. This includes NI, Highlands, Scottish Islands, the Isle of Man and the Scilly Isles.

What Customers Said

Nothing can beat the excitement of opening a case of wine containing wonders from the four corners of the world. However, Virgin wines has had a number of issues with customer service in the past.

People claim that sometimes not all of the bottles in the cases are of the same quality, and a few of the supposedly award-winning wines have no such record. All in all, this wine club does not seem to respond satisfactorily to customer complaints, and has had a few issues with the Office of Fair Trading in the past.

Extras

Besides the Discovery Club, the Virgin Wine Club has devised other convenient plans for wine lovers, such as the WineBank. Apart from the usual initial discount on a case (plus free delivery), the WineBank allows you to save 25% on all your future purchases.
