As far as American wine clubs go, this wine club has everything you could desire from the best of them. It is advertised as a provider of hand-picked wines from great local wineries.
With exciting selections such as Oregon (where it is based), international, and Organic wines, this wine club has the advantage of servicing states where many wine clubs don't deliver, such as Alaska or Hawaii.
Their international section is not huge, but it offers an excellent selection of Argentinean reds as well as some great German whites, among its most rare items.
The Pacific Wine Club stands out among its American counterparts for many reasons.
Firstly, it has an open tasting room where Medford (Oregon) locals can get a chance to personally appreciate the wines before purchasing. In fact, for 5 years now, it has been holding a Holiday wine extravaganza every November. This is a widely acclaimed and respected event where both regional and foreign wines are presented to the public.
Vintage or Green
If this wine club sounds good to you and you want to give it a try, you will have to choose one of their five different membership options.
While the Vintage Select club brings you the best wines from Oregon, Washington, and California; the Vino section is devoted to Italian wines.
The Peerless Flight club presents wines from the same regions as the Vintage club, but restricting the selection to the very "best of the west," offering only premium, high quality wines.
They also have a World section for those interested in foreign and exotic wines.
My favorite option is the Green Vine club. The idea of it is that it only offers wines produced in an eco-friendly way, nevertheless "compromising neither flavor nor integrity of practices," as their website states.
Pricing & Shipping
The price range for their selections is between $32 and $80, each monthly offering consisting of 2 bottles of wine, with an occasional third extra bottle thrown in at no cost.
Shipping (by UPS) is free in the continental US. Packaging is also eco-friendly and recyclable.
It is important to check whether they deliver to your location, as Massachusetts, Utah, and a couple of other states are off-limits.
To my mind, the Pacific Wine Club is a very serious endeavor. They know what they're doing, and it appears that their wine selections are done quite carefully. Other than that, it enjoys a very good reputation. It will, most likely, be enjoyed by connoisseurs and beginners alike.
