Based in Oregon, the Pacific Northwest Wine Club is focused on what the people running it know best, namely, their own region. Besides the Oregon area itself, the club features wines from Washington, Idaho, and California, as well as from Pacific regions in other countries, such as Chile and Australia.
The Pacific Northwest region is quite vibrant when it comes to wine. It has its own wine clubs and publications, and many wine lovers are paying attention to it these days.
This wine club is totally unpretentious, and yet it reputedly provides excellent service for good value. By concentrating on local and regional wines, they are making sure that you only get the best.
Membership & Pricing
There are two different membership options. The sweet wines option is an alternative to the standard option.
Both memberships are $24.95 for the first month, but they can go up to around $36 after that. You will be receiving two bottles every month. In each selection, you will have a choice between red, white, and mixed.
For an extra $10 to $15 you can get the international option add-on to receive one extra bottle every quarter.
Shipping & Benefits
Shipping costs for your first package will be $7, while later costs are not specified. They currently ship to 18 states, excluding those which require a special permit.
Your package will arrive complete with an excellent monthly newsletter; I have to say it is quite interesting compared to other wine club newsletters I have read. :-)
They also hold special events such as tastings (at their store front) and wine dinners.
The whole wine club experience seems to have a personal touch. This is not one of those supermarket-style wine clubs that are popping up like mushrooms these days. The Pacific Northwest Wine Club prides itself in its local character and personalized service.
Adventurers, Beware
Sometimes something good can also be bad when seen from a different angle; I love the idea that the experts at this wine club really know their region, but their concentration can also be a drawback. If you are an adventurous wine drinker, dying to try South American or Western European wines, this wine club might disappoint you.
In fact, at a closer look, this wine club is not currently offering any Chilean or Australian wines; though these countries are listed as regions it is supposed to cover.
On the other hand, I am very impressed with the club's wine-related information, it seems that they have a great reputation with customers, and they certainly have a knack for selecting the best Pacific wines. Therefore, I strongly recommend it, especially if you are a local or beginner.
