New Zealand Wine Society... Kiwi Home of Oceania's Best Wines
Founded in 1990 the NZ Wine Society is slightly different from other Wine Societies in the world. Namely, it is not a non-profit co-op venture. It is operated by Cardmember Wines, the biggest direct wine retail business in New Zealand.
The New Zealand Wine Society's wine selection comprises around 240 wines from New Zealand and Australia. Most of their wines are produced locally in their own wineries. Needless to say, if you want to experience wines from exotic regions, this wine club is not for you. It is dedicated to bringing the best of New Zealand and Australia's wine to the kiwi wine enthusiast.
Aficionados & Connoisseurs
The New Zealand Wine Society offers a choice of seven quarterly wine plans. The list includes A Trans Tasman club for Australian and New Zealand wines, featuring mostly NZ whites and Australian reds.
The list is completed with a Discovery Series, the Connoisseur, Judge's Choice, and Aficionado selections, and two exclusive Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay sections.
Quarterly orders are for 12-bottle cases, which typically include sets of 2-4 bottles of each wine selection. There is always a choice between white, red, and mixed.
Pricing & Shipping
Case prices vary according to the wine plan of your choice. Their price range is between $149 and $198, averaging about $14 per bottle.
Delivery takes between 2 and 5 working days. Charges vary according to location. Shipping to metropolitan Auckland costs $7.95, while shipping elsewhere in North Island adds up to $12.95, and the charge is $14.95 in the case of South Island.
If you order five cases or more, shipping is free.
What People Said
The NZ Wine Society's customer service is quite good according to online ratings and reviews. I found out they had some minor issues with advertising in the past, but they appear to have dealt with them successfully.
In a nutshell, the New Zealand Wine Society is a very good option for local New Zealanders to experience a taste of the best of their wine production. Both consumers and industry experts agree on the quality of their wine selection.
