Nevada Wine Club Guide

Nevada Wine Clubs...
Out From the California Shadow

Nevada wines and wineries have had a long row to hoe. While the state is in the shadows of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains, the state's wineries are also in the shadow of the great and glorious California wines... that you've probably heard of (and sampled).

Getting out of California's shadow has proven much more difficult for Nevada wineries than actually making good wines.

If you are looking for some really unique and high-quality wines, be brave and sample some Nevada wines, or join a Nevada wine club.

Nevada's climate varies from brutal deserts to lush oases and as a result can grow an interesting array of grapes.

So if you're tempted to stick to the bigger known wine regions like California, you'll do well to remember one of life's lessons that "bigger isn’t always better." Take Tahoe Ridge for example...

Tahoe Ridge

This winery is here to help prove that bigger isn't always better. They are nestled in the Carson Valley in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and is the state's pioneer winery. It produced the first commercial wine from Nevada-grown grapes in 2001... ten years after they developed the first vineyard.

Youthful, yes. Inexperienced, no. Tahoe Ridge had the enviable result of having 5 wines place in the largest competition of American made wines... pitted against over 4,700 other wines from 26 states. The medals are still rolling in. Lucky for you they have a wine club!

If you are interested in joining Tahoe Ridge's "Pioneer Wine Club," you can bet that it's easy to do. Sign up for this free membership and you will receive 18 bottles of wine annually and you can choose from only reds or a mixed shipment. Plus, you'll earn great savings on any other wines you choose to order on your own.

Pahrump Valley Winery

This is another small winery, running in conjunction with a restaurant. The Pahrump Valley Winery doesn't have a Nevada wine club, so to speak, but it does have some really awesome deals for you to check out.

The "PVW" gives you the chance to customize every single bottle of wine you order... on the outside. That's right, you can print your own labels, making a one of a kind gift for any wine lover you know.

These are great gifts for any occasion... or to keep for yourself!

Forget eating the top of the wedding cake on your anniversary. Pop the cork of a bottle of wine that was tailored just for you. Celebrate with style, and keep the bottle as a souvenir. How fun!

The Pahrump Valley Winery features some very tasty wines with some varietals that you will probably recognize. They offer you Chardonnay, Burgundy, Merlot, and even Cream Sherry.

They also have some very unique wines of their own, such as the rare Symphony and the Peak White... both are wines you should definitely try. With over 40 national wine awards, you know these will be great wines!

Nevada's Future in Wine

The future of Nevada wineries and Nevada wine clubs looks promising, but the art is simply too young to be certain right now.

It seems as though the few Nevada wineries in operation are doing well and making great strides toward developing grapes that will thrive in this vastly diverse climate. (The University of Nevada (Reno) has been assisting with these grape studies.)

So in the future, perhaps there will be more Nevada wine clubs for you to enjoy the fruits of these experimental vineyards.

Thanks to a couple of bold pioneers, you can sip and enjoy now while you wait for more.
