Is Joining a Wine Club for You?

Joining a Wine Club...
Let There Be Wine

These days, there are lots of people joining wine clubs whether they are knowledgeable about wine or not. This is different to the past, where this used to be an activity reserved for the elite rich folks and connoisseurs... but this has changed dramatically, especially over the last couple of decades.

Joining a wine club is something you could be interested in, even if you are not crazy about wine. You can join a wine club to enhance the quality of the wine you consume, give as a present, or to reduce its cost.

Basically, if you have a minimum of one bottle of wine with dinner each week, then to join a wine club that selects four bottles of wine per month for you would be a very good option.

Instead of going to the store and reading a million labels until you blindly decide, based on price range (thinking that a more expensive wine will be better), you will now have a team of experts choosing wines for you around the clock. :-)

Beyond the Wine

Besides... it will make you look like a true connoisseur in front of your friends and family... and a wine club membership also gives you lots of other benefits.

Certain wine clubs are big on including gifts with their wines, such as stylish wine accessories and delicacies. The majority of them will also endeavor to teach you a few things about wine, holding tasting events, hosting educational seminars, and even organizing wine tours and wine making sessions.

There are certain wine clubs with a strong social focus. Wine tasting clubs such as the Tasters Guild or the NYC Wine Club are in this category. Their aim is usually not to sell wine, but to host a variety of wine events that can become an important social occasion in their community.

Joining a wine club of this kind will be slightly different from large sales-oriented wine clubs such as the Wall Street Journal Wine Club or the Four Seasons Wine Club, in the sense that the former will only charge you for tickets to each event (at a special members' price), and, possibly, an entry fee.

The Comfortable Explorer

There is much than than saving money on wine or hosting successful parties when you join a wine club.

If you have an adventurous mind, you'll find that a wine club can also be a way to travel in the imagination... to discover fantastic wines from remote regions, enjoying them in the comfort of your home, and all without having to lift a finger.

Personally, when I travel, the memories of the exotic wines that I've tried are always a prized part of my memories. I would give anything to get back the taste of white Retsina wine from a breezy afternoon in Mykonos, or the Prosecco I drank by the Rialto bridge in Venice, with that quality of a cool glass of Prosecco that makes you feel like the world around you is full of possibilities.

Joining a wine club, one of the internationally oriented ones, in any case, can be a way to experience some of those sensations without leaving your home. In this respect, I can recommend Wine Express and Cellars Wine Club
