Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget? Try Joining a Champagne Wine Club
It is interesting that some people don't enjoy drinking wine but once the cork on a bottle of bubbly is popped there is always a rush for the Champagne glasses! What is it about Champagne that makes even the most stoic of the bunch, giggle like a sixth grader?
Well the jury is still out on the answer to that question, but it is cause to purchase a subscription to a champagne wine club. :-)
After realizing what a hit Champagne is at any gathering whether formal or casual, I began researching options online... and surprisingly, I found many.
Champagne Anyone?
The first hit was a true find.
K&L Wine Merchants
specifically dedicates one entire club to Champagne, offering two unique bottles every other month for under $70 from Champagne, France.
The next great source was more like "gift sets" than a wine club called Champagne Wines. They boast not only wines from Champagne, France, but also other sparkling wines from around the world that are prepared in exactly the same way as in the Champagne region. They are however not permitted to be called "Champagne" (simply because they are not made in Champagne, France.)
Some of these excellent varieties of sparkling wine are also from France, named Crémant, Mousseux, and Pétillant. From Spain, they are labeled Cava, Italian sparkling wines are called Spumante, and Germany names them Sekt. There are wonderful US sparkling wines as well, many produced in California.
The Champagne Wines site was a little less convenient since it is for gift orders and requires a little more effort to select the wines. But you can use this option for quick delivery whenever there is an occasion to celebrate.
More Options
Other sites will offer purchases by the bottle. You read up on each Champagne or sparkling wine and make your selections, proceed to the checkout, add shipping, and they will deliver right to your door.

Valuable Reading and Personal Service
With a Champagne wine club membership you'll be pleasantly surprised with the reading material you receive on the history of France, Paris, Bordeaux, etc.
K&L Wine Merchants
also offer a "Personal Sommelier Service" for their members, including help selecting wines within your budget. You can choose the type of wine, or leave it to the experts. They will personalize your membership to match your requirements, which I thought was much friendlier than simply "ordering cold" online and hoping for the best.
You'll find that wine club membership is quite a little adventure and full of fun. Many of the selections are not found in a liquor store or even many local wine shops. Even if they were available, the prices are not comparable to a company such as this one that buys direct from Champagne.
For your next event, try subscribing to a Champagne wine club. Even if you don't use the wines immediately, they store well on their side at around 50 to 55 degrees F for over four years. They come ready to drink and don't require extra aging – just chill on ice or in the fridge for three hours and you and your friends are all set to celebrate life!
