California Wine Club...
State of Wine

It is said that if California were an independent nation, it would be the fourth wine producer in the world!

Did you know, that introduced by Spanish missionaries, California winemaking dates back to the 1700s? This strong tradition has lead to a steady growth which has resulted in a burgeoning multi-million dollar industry.

As of today, California is home to over 1,500 wineries, covering 200,000 hectares of vineyards... this probably makes it the region with the highest per-capita rate of wine clubs in the world.

The state's nearly 100 American viticultural areas are populated by wineries running their own wine clubs, but the quintessential (non-winery) California wine club is a wine of the month club with a long tradition. In fact, every town and region in California wine country offers a wide choice of wine clubs to choose from.

Let's explore...

Wine Country Par Excellence

If you are looking for a California wine club, chances are you are looking for a Sonoma wine club or a Napa wine club, as these are the largest and most famous wine regions in the state.

While Sonoma offers some exclusive wine clubs such as the VIP Luxe program at J Vineyards and more affordable options like the Kendall-Jackson Wine Club at Kendall Jackson Wine Estates...

...the beautiful Napa Valley is home to world-famous wineries such as bubbly-guru Mumm's, which offers a wine club that champagne-lovers will die for; and the eco-friendly wine plans offered by the Benziger family winery.

Valleys and Towns

The slightly more elusive Santa Clara wine club is mainly a winery-based occurrence. You'll find that the bulk of the local wine clubs around the beautiful Santa Clara valley are run by boutique wineries, such as the Eckert Estate winery and the Creekview Club. By far the most famous of the lot is the signature club, The Wine Club

Moving South, the most interesting wine club in Santa Ana is the one at South Coast Winery and Spa, which features both excellent wine selections and wine-based spa treatments.

When it comes to wine clubs in San Francisco, Swirl on Castro presents a classy urban choice, while the club at the world-famous Wente Vineyards also offers top-quality wine selections of award-winning wines.

With a vibrant wine scene, the wine club San Jose options are also very interesting. The local choice includes many winery-based clubs and some quite original concoctions such as the wine club at the San Jose Opera.

A Bountiful State

You'll find that California's limpid skies, rich soils, and warm climate have made it into one of the world's richest wine regions. As a result, wine culture has been spreading around this state for hundreds of years.

And interestingly, the state is also home to the first wine of the month club in history.

With such a record, you won't be surprised to find that the choice of California wine clubs is vast and exciting, across the vine-rich hills and valleys of a region fittingly called "the Golden state."
