BC Wine Club Review

BC Wine Club...
Discover British Columbia's Best Kept Secrets

A primarily local setup, the BC Wine Club services British Columbia and its surrounding area. Choosing a featured winery every month, it gives you the opportunity to explore the finest wines of this rapidly developing wine region.

BC Wines

Obviously, the variety of wines offered by this wine club is limited by their origin; the BC winegrowers association only has 36 members, all in all. This means that the wine/winery of the month will suffer from repetition. In fact, there are about five wineries which have been featured two or three times in the history of the club, which started in 2004.

Nevertheless, the quality of the wines presented seems to be excellent, with a selection including some of the major Canadian award-winning varieties. These include whites like the exotic Viognier, the Semillon, some of the best Canadian Chardonnays, and, among the reds, the traditional Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Merlot.

Membership & Pricing

By joining this wine club from BC, you will receive two bottles from the featured winery, either a red and a white or two reds, every month.

There is a standard membership fee of $9.95, with the total monthly cost fluctuating between $65 and $85, depending on the price of each month's wine and your location.

Gift membership is also available starting at one single month.

Can You Join if You Are Not in BC?

This wine club can only ship wine to the Western Canadian provinces, except Manitoba. Unfortunately, federal regulations don't allow them to ship elsewhere in Canada or abroad.

What's Good?

If you are into discovering wines from regions far far away, this wine club won't be your thing. They specialize in bringing you the best of the region, focusing on small, and sometimes great, family-owned boutique or estate wineries.

Then again, if you are a local and you want to explore and discover what your province has to offer, then this wine club is a great place to start. They actually make it a point not to choose large wineries, offering wines which can only be found either in the wineries themselves or at select restaurants.

This wine club seems to be very well respected in Canada, and having been featured by them is something local wineries boast of every chance they get.

The wines are offered at affordable prices, the wine club's style seems to be relaxed and unpretentious, and the monthly newsletter includes gourmet recipes fit to accompany your purchased wines.

If you are interested in boosting your wine savvy and live around the area, it is a good idea to give the BC Wine Club a try. After all, as they say, know your village and you will know the world.
